master of the spoon

Sylvia seemed very grown up to me on this particular morning. She was using a spoon with the confidence of someone who had been scooping applesauce for years instead of days. Not a little baby anymore.

Walk with me

This was the first time Sylvia walked to the backyard on our new grass. We were enjoying the beautiful weather. This a quick little view of the yard and the back of the house that I am sure will look very different in years to come.

....and there she sat for over five minutes. The little girl that stumbles and falls onto concrete on a daily basis is afraid of the grass.

Jack in the box

John spent the first few days after his surgery trying to sleep and rest on the couch. However, Sylvia decided there should be no sleep - she would call "Da Da" right in his face if he tried to close his eyes. He attempted to outsmart her today, by going to his bed for some rest. However, when she burst into tears at the sight of him leaving the room, he let her come with and play on the bed for a few hours. (John: 0; Sylvia:2)
Luckily for John, Sylvia went to her crib to take a nice long nap, so he snuck in a nap as well. She even left him her monkey to cuddle with while he slept. I could have had a great photo of that, but couldn't risk waking poor John.
The video below was taken later after they both napped, and Sylvia was thrilled to have her daddy awake this afternoon. She was playing "Jack in the box, Jack out of the box" which is a game they played at Tumbling Tots. I'm pretty sure she never did more than watch at the YMCA, but better late than never! She is very cute with her Zebra. I was keeping him in a closet until she was a little bigger, and she saw the box a week ago, and somehow new it was for her. She can now get on and off by herself and gives frequent kisses to that zebra. She was right - she's definitely the right size now!
Believe it or not, she is coming over to me at the end of the video to get some more onion from my hoagie. With her taste for garlic and onions, I think some of the food that I ate while pregnant must have gone through that umbilical cord. Who knew?

Happy Anniversary

John and I had a really great anniversary. Mary Lou came to watch Sylvia for us the weekend before so we could go out to dinner and see a movie for the first time in ages. On Tuesday, John brought me home beautiful roses after a day of a lot of driving and walking out in the middle of nowhere, left to battle rattle snakes alone (not kidding!). He picked out the vase, told them exactly how much babies breath to use, and specified exactly how the roses should look. Unfortunately, I didn't remember to take a picture until almost a week later - wilted and a little sad, but you get the idea :) The roses are sitting on part of our beautiful anniversary gift from Mary Lou (besides the baby-sitting services!)

Happy 2nd Anniversary John, I love you!!
